BOOST
Simon Petrusma applied for a Vision 100 Grand Plans grant on behalf of "Liquid," a group of young Christians in Launceston which was formed in January after a couple of conferences that, Simon says, “sparked a rather large flame inside all of us."
“The motivation of the group is getting together weekly over dinner, lunch or dessert, and doing whatever it takes to grow as Christ-ones," Simon says. "We read the Word, meditate on it, pray over it, and do not let anything get in the way - we are a fluid group.” Liquid has tripled in size since January and the ages of its members range from 16-19 years.
In addition to encouraging each other in the faith, members of Liquid have recognised the need to share the gospel with others. BOOST (Bible Over Our Selfish Thinking) is a event they recently started running at a local church building. It is designed for young people in the city of Launceston, from Grade 9 to people in their early 20s. Its aim is: "reaching the lost youth of Launceston". So far Nathan Hill (a teacher at the Launceston Christian School) and Jake Bevan (a Crossroads Ministry Apprentice) have been speakers at the event.
What the committee is struggling with now is advertising. They would like to have a "non-cheap" looking postcard sized invitation designed and printed but do not have the necessary funds. They would also like to hire out another venue (eg. a cafe) every few months to ensure the event is not just associated with The Branch building, and to deter people from thinking that because it is set in a church building, it will be a church service style event.
The group's request for $1,000 of financial support has been granted by the Vision 100 Committee. Please pray that the members of BOOST spend their money wisely and that it enables them to attract more people to the event to hear the good news of the gospel and come to know Christ.
